time based dynamic nodes issue?

Postby youngc » 25 Jun 2013 19:32

I am having some difficulty creating time based dynamic nodes.
When I specify an attValue with a start value that is xsd:date format,
<attvalue for="no" value="1" start="2013-04-12" />

I got the following error on import:
The time interval for node 'node id-1' attribute could not be parsed. Use xsd:date, xsd:dateTime or Double formatting.
org.gephi.io.importer.api.Issue@1f61b27 SEVERE

Is this a known issue?
Is there a workaround that I can use?

Thanks in advance for all any help.
Charles

Here's a simple .gexf file that illustrate the problem I am having.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<gexf xmlns:viz="http:///www.gexf.net/1.2draft/viz" xmlns="http://www.gexf.net/1.2draft" version="1.2">
<meta lastmodifieddate="6/19/2013 10:50:06 PM-0700">
</meta>

<graph defaultedgetype="directed" idtype="integer" mode="dynamic" timeformat="date" start="2013-01-01" end="2013-12-31">
<attributes class="node">
<attribute id="no" title="transactions" type="integer" />
</attributes>

<nodes>
<node id="1" label="841" start="2013-04-12" >
<attvalues>
<attvalue for="no" value="1" start="2013-04-12" />
<attvalue for="no" value="2" start="2013-04-15" />
</attvalues>
</node>

<node id="2" label="865" start="2013-04-26" >
<attvalues>
<attvalue for="no" value="18" />
</attvalues>
</node>
</nodes>

<edges>
<edge id="1" source="1" target="2" type="mutual" start="2013-04-28" >
</edge>
</edges>

</graph>
</gexf>

Hi,
You need to specify that the 'transactions' attribute is dynamic:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<gexf xmlns:viz="http:///www.gexf.net/1.2draft/viz" xmlns="http://www.gexf.net/1.2draft" version="1.2">
<meta lastmodifieddate="6/19/2013 10:50:06 PM-0700">
</meta>

<graph defaultedgetype="directed" mode="dynamic" timeformat="date" start="2013-01-01" end="2013-12-31">
<attributes class="node" mode="dynamic">
<attribute id="no" title="transactions" type="integer" />
</attributes>

<nodes>
<node id="1" label="841" start="2013-04-12" >
<attvalues>
<attvalue for="no" value="1" start="2013-04-12" />
<attvalue for="no" value="2" start="2013-04-15" />
</attvalues>
</node>

<node id="2" label="865" start="2013-04-26" >
<attvalues>
<attvalue for="no" value="18" />
</attvalues>
</node>
</nodes>

<edges>
<edge id="1" source="1" target="2" type="mutual" start="2013-04-28" >
</edge>
</edges>

</graph>
</gexf>

Thanks!
That solve the issue. Didn't realize I have to set mode=dynamic for the "attributes" node in addition to the "attribute" node.

Once gain. Thanks for taking the time.

Well, here's the second hurdle.

Using the simple 2 node dynamic gexf file above, I was able to work on it without any problem. Then, I save it away as a .gephi file (instead of exporting it as a gexf file)

When I click on the saved .gephi file to open it, I got the following "warning":

" The project file couldn't be opened. Please check the file has .gephi extension.
ClassCastException- java.lang.Float cannot be cast to org.gephi.data.attributes.type.DynamicType "

Some other times, I get the following error:

" The project file couldn't be opened. Please check the file has .gephi extension. ( It does)
NullPointerException - null "

If I started the Gephi application first and open the file from the application, I can load the .gephi file once in a while (~10% of the time).
I can always open the .gexf file without problem.

Appreciate all the help. I am on Windows 7 (64bits)

Thanks

Hi,
.gephi files are still problematic. I adivice you to export as a .gexf file for the moment.
